Coca-Cola HBC (CCH) today announced a commitment to\u00a0achieving net zero\u00a0emissions across its entire value chain by 2040.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/div>

Via an existing, approved science-based target, by 2030 the company will reduce its value chain emissions in scopes 1,2 and 3 by 25%, with a further 50% reduction in the following decade.\u00a0 To address the 90% of emissions in scope 3 resulting from third party actions, CCH will broaden its existing partnership approach with suppliers.\u00a0 Wherever emissions cannot be eliminated entirely, the business will mitigate these by investing in other climate protection measures.<\/p>

A ROBUST PLAN<\/strong><\/p>

To achieve its goal Coca-Cola HBC will:<\/p>

  • Invest \u20ac250 million in emissions reduction initiatives by 2025<\/li>
  • Decarbonise further direct operations\u00a0by switching to 100% renewable electricity and low carbon energy sources through continuous improvements and innovations in energy efficiency<\/li>
  • Accelerate its journey to a more circular, lower carbon packaging approach\u00a0by increasing\u00a0rPET\u00a0use, adopting\u00a0packageless\u00a0and refillable options, removing plastics in secondary packaging<\/li>
  • Provide energy-efficient and eco-friendly coolers\u00a0to customers<\/li>
  • Reduce emissions from agricultural ingredients<\/li>
  • Implement a \u201cGreen Fleet\u201d programme\u00a0to switch to low and no carbon alternatives<\/li><\/ul>

    In addition, Coca-Cola HBC has introduced CO2 emission reduction targets as one of the elements in its long-term management incentive plans.<\/p>

    A STRONG TRACK RECORD<\/strong><\/p>

    Coca-Cola HBC was one of the first companies to commit to and deliver science-based targets.\u00a0 In the last decade, the company has halved its direct emissions and the CO2<\/sub>\u00a0reduction plan to 2030 is already endorsed and approved on the 1.5 degree pathway.\u00a0 In March 2021, Coca-Cola HBC was\u00a0rated the\u00a0world\u2019s most sustainable beverage company by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index\u00a0for the 5th time in the last 7 years, achieving its\u00a0highest\u00a0ever score. It is also ranked among the top sustainability performers in ESG benchmarks such as\u00a0CDP, MSCI ESG and FTSE4Good.<\/p>

    A PARTNERSHIP APPROACH<\/strong><\/p>

    The new commitment is also endorsed by the \u201cWe Mean Business\u201d coalition and Coca-Cola HBC has joined the list of companies supporting the \u201cRace to Zero\u201d initiative.<\/p><\/div>
