On October 30, AmCham organised the 18th General Assembly where representatives of member companies of the American Chamber of Commerce in Macedonia (AmCham Macedonia) elected 5 new members of the Board of Directors, out of 9 potential Board candidates. The newly elected Board of Directors are:

– Mr. Vladimir Kosijer, General Manager, Pivara Skopje AD;
– Mr. Nikola Ljushev, Chief Executive Officer, Makedonski Telekom AD Skopje;
– Ms. Maja Filipcheva, Tax & Outsourcing Manager, Grant Thornton doo;
– Mr. Ljupco Georgiev, General Manager, Microsoft dooel;
– Mr. Marjan Petreski, Vice-Rector for research, University American College Skopje;

This year the Assembly was attended by 120 representatives from the member companies of the Chamber. The event was officially opened by the current President of the Board of Directors, Mr. Slavko Projkoski, who pointed out that the business sector should be able to continuously make recommendations and comments on proposed amendments in the legislation, as well as to discuss with policy makers for ideas that would improve the regulation and would strengthen the business environment.

AmCham continuously works on improving the local business environment by organising knowledge exchange events as well as through direct engagement with policy makers in the direction of identifying key economic and social challenges and possible solutions. Issues such as strengthening the transparency and predictability of policies, and improving the quality of education are part of the priorities of the members of the AmCham Board of Directors, the Executive Office and the Members of AmCham committees – said Mr. Projkoski.
The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Jess Bailey, emphasised that AmCham Macedonia is the most active foreign and local business association in the business community, pointing out the importance of the participation of the business community in democratic developments and changes in the country, as well as the possibility of progress, market expansion, corruption, increasing transparency and predictability of business policies as several of the many benefits of the country’s NATO membership.

The working part of the Assembly was led by the AmCham Macedonia Executive Director Diana Despodov who presented the report on the realized activities and projects in the past 12 months, emphasising the impressive percentages of the members’ involvement in the activities of the chamber.
